Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves
The three national reserves of Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba are all located around the Ewaso Ngiro river on the northern axis of the country, and form a group of exceptional, desert-like landscapes.

The river, whose banks nourish a luxurious forest of acacia,
palms and tamarind trees, guarantees the survival of all the
local wildlife: hippopotamuses, crocodiles, elephants,

Grevy’s zebras, giraffes, gerenuks or gazelles, giraffes, impalas and oryxes… Lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas are found in abundance there.

Among the particularly rich birdlife, one can observe a number of birds of prey as well as the rare Somalian ostrich with its unusual blue feet.

The desert-like region is inhabited by the Samburu people, nomadic shepherds originally from the Nile who are culturally
and linguistically very close to the Masai people.

Although quite rarely visited, these three reserves are remarkable.
